The clinical review was made in 90 cases of breast cancer that had been treated from January 1985 to December 1992 at Department of Surgery, College of Medicine, Hallym University.
@ES The obtained result are as follows;
@EN 1) The most prevalent age group was the 5th decade(35.6%) and male to female was 1:89.
2) Most common symptom and sign were palpable mass.
3) Most common tumor size was within 2~5cm diameter in 50 cases(55.6%), followed by under the 2cm diameter, over the 5cm diameter.
4) 65 cases(72.2%) of all patients visited to the hospital within 6 months from onset.
5) The primary tumor was located in the right side in 47 cases(52.2%), left side in 43 cases(47.8%) and the most frequent site of location was outer upper quadrant in 52 cases(57.8%).
6) According to T.N.M. system, the most common stage was stage was stage II in 44 cases(48.9%) followed by stage III in 25 cases(27.8%), stage I in 17 cases(18.9%), stage IV in 4 cases(4.4%).
7) The most predominant type in pathological classification was infiltrating ductal carcinoma(90.1%).
8) The xillary metastasis was present in 37 cases(43.5%).
9) The most common type of operative technique was modified radical mastectomy in 58 cases(64.5%).
10) Estrogen and progesterone receptor assay(ER, PR) were performed in 31 cases ER(+), PR(+) and ER(+), PR(-) both in 10 cases(32.3%).
11) The postoperative complication was develop in 26 cases(28.9%) of all patients. The most common type of complication in 10 cases(11.1%), followed by skin flap necrosis in 7 cases(7.8%), wound hematoma in 5 cases(5.6%), limitation of motion of
shoulder or arm in 3 cases(3.3%), pleural effusion in 2 cases(2.2%), infection in 2 cases(2.2%), flap dehiscence in 1 case (1.1%).
12) Overall 5-year actuarial survival rate after surgery was 82.78%. 5-year survival rate among the patients with stage I was 100%, 88.51% in stage II, 78.12% in stage III, 50.00% in stage IV.
